Summer 2016

"My family & I have just returned from a three week holiday to Dolphin Gites. We arrived a little early on the Saturday but was allowed to de bunk etc, which I thought was great as it showed the owners had some flexibility ..The owners, Howard & Cathy were brilliant hosts from the moment we arrived to our reluctant send off at the end of our stay. We stayed in New Cottage.

This is a detached gite with gardens to the front and rear which were adequately manicured. Inside is an open plan living room/kitchen /diner. There is adequate space for all needs and on arrival the gite was clean and airy. Two bedrooms and a bathroom made up the floor plan of the area. There was enough crockery and utensils to cook on a cooker that was both gas and electric....There are relevant alarms attached to the property so that aspect has been cared for.. Also the gas bottle for the cooker is located outside of the gite...

The grounds to Dolphin Gites could be described as picturesque and rolling...To me this was the jewel in the crown. The rolling lawn from the owners house to the end was easily 175 yards (sorry, I don't do metric). They are walled in by a beautiful period wall. This for families holidaying is piece of mind plus interest. The kids have full access to the rolling lawn, which to give it some credence, think of a fairway on a golf course & you will not be far off......

The pool area is also cased off with a perimeter fence .....As you look at the whole area it is clear that both Howard & Cathy have ticked the health & safety boxes very well. If I were taking a young family abroad I would want them to stay at Dolphin Gites....

The weather was fantastic and this only acted as a backdrop to the "Tuesday night" meet and greet drinks which the owners arrange at their expense......

The village is quaint and the gite complex is central to everything....A CAR IS NOT REQUIRED.....REPEAT NOT REQUIRED....If you choose Dolphin, please make sure you take bikes as there are some of the best cycle tracks in the area.

We visited many locations on our cycles and the beach is only a 15 minute saunter on the bikes. This is a complete cycle friendly location so as I have alluded to a bike is a must.

The only time the car should really be used would be to do the "big" shop............... Rather than go on and on about the fabulous cycle trips, its best to interrogate the owners website as there is a complete section on cycling.......Howard clearly must have taken some advice on this section......

To sum up, this was a fantastic holiday for my family & I and I would love to return if only for the rolling lawn & the majestic view from the bottom right of the pool area. It was simply breathtaking........The whole gite complex is well maintained which is testament to the hard work Howard & Cathy puts it.....The lawns are clearly safe and well cared for........ Enjoy......."

"This was our 3rd stay at Dolphin Gîtes and our first ‘on-site’ in Gîte 6 (Old Logis). Everything more than exceeded our expectations. We found our stay to be very restful and relaxing throughout. We were fortunate enough to be blessed with 14 days of sunshine during our 2 week holiday. Our 4 year old son had no end of fun with other children of all ages (4 years - 17 years) in the safe surroundings of the extensive grounds and gardens. Moreover, the convivial fun continued in the warm outdoor pool. Our gîte was spacious and well equipped with a washing machine, dishwasher and every kitchen utensil you could think of. A lovely environment/atmosphere in which to experience a family holiday. A hidden gem in the heart of the Vendée region. This is a special holiday destination with so much to see and do in the nearby vicinity. In our opinion, La Rochelle and Ile de Re are certainly worth a long day out and both possess real character and charm of their own. So much for children of all ages- from high wire adventure parks, crazy golf, quad bikes, water parks, canoeing. We also explored a few of the well laid out and sign-posted bike paths/routes which can be taken in directly from Dolphin Gîtes. Bikes can be hired for a nominal fee.
